Course Overview

Entry requirements

There are no prerequisites for this qualification, although it is recommended that learners already hold a Level 4 Award in Food Safety qualification and/or a Level 3 HACCP qualification before undertaking this qualification. Consultation between the learner and trainer may be required to ensure that the level of microbiology knowledge and other food safety matters is sufficient to undertake this qualification.

It is also recommended that learners have a minimum of Level 2 in literacy/English, or equivalent.

How long will it take me to achieve this qualification? 

This qualification is usually achieved by undertaking a six day course, delivered over a number of weeks.

How is this qualification assessed?

This qualification is assessed by a written examination consisting of two sections with a combined total duration of 2 and a half hours.  A learner will pass if they achieve 60% in each section.  Marks from both sections of the exam will be added together to give an overall grade.  Learners with an overall score of 70-79 (70%) will achieve a merit and those with an overall score of 80-100 (80%) will achieve a distinction.
