Level 3 CompTIA A +

CompTIA A+ is the benchmark for kickstarting an IT career. The Core Series, comprising Core 1 and Core 2 exams, covers essential skills for supporting a hybrid workforce. Topics include SaaS applications, remote troubleshooting, core technologies, operating systems management, and decision-making between on-site fixes and specialised providers.

This course is fully funded for Greater Manchester and South Yorkshire residents who meet the eligibility criteria.

Greater Manchester 2024/2025 Funding Rules for Applicant Eligibility:

  • For learners aged 19+ on or before the 31st August 2024
  • Lived in a Greater Manchester postcode region
  • Lived in the UK for the last 3 years
  • Be either unemployed and employed applicants
  • If employed, must earn less than the current ‘low wage threshold’ of £32,200

South Yorkshire 2024/2025 Funding Rules for Applicant Eligibility:

  • 24+ on or before the 31st August 2024
  • Lived in a South Yorkshire postcode region (Barnsley, Doncaster, Sheffield or Rotherham)
  • Be either unemployed or Employed
  • If employed, must earn less than the current ‘low wage threshold’ of £30,476.96
  • Must not hold more than one Level 3 or higher qualification
When does the course start?

Our courses run all year but the next cohort will begin:

Tuesday 2nd July 2024

Course delivery is online via Microsoft Teams on Tuesdays 10am - 4pm.

What does the course cover?

Hardware

  • Identifying, using and connecting hardware components and devices, including the broad knowledge about different devices that is now necessary to support the remote workforce.

 

Operating Systems

  • Install and support Windows OS including command line and client support, system configuration imaging and troubleshooting for Mac OS, Chrome OS, Android and Linux OS.

 

Software Troubleshooting

  • Troubleshoot PC and mobile device issues including common OS, malware and security issues.

 

Networking

  • Explain types of networks and connections including TCP/IP, WIFI and SOHO

 

Troubleshooting

  • Troubleshoot real-world device and network issues quickly and efficiently

 

Security

Identify and protect against security vulnerabilities for devices and their network connections

 

Mobile Devices

  • Install and configure laptops and other mobile devices and support applications to ensure connectivity for end users

 

Virtualisation and Cloud Computing

  • Compare and contrast cloud computing concepts and set up client-side virtualization

 

Operational Procedures

  • Follow best practices for safety, environmental impacts, and communication and professionalism
