18 year old Jessica Martin from Bramhall attended Altrincham College of Arts in Timperley, where she secured seven GCSEs. Unhappy with her Maths and English grades, Jessica decided to enrol on a Pre-Apprenticeship with The Skills Company to improve her qualifications and attend a work experience placement.

Jessica was keen to gain some experience in an office environment doing business administration so an interview was arranged with HRGO, a recruitment agency in Stockport, and Jessica successfully secured herself a placement in March 2015.

During her work experience placement Jessica impressed her employer with her excellent work ethic and customer service skills, so much so that HRGO offered Jessica the opportunity to progress onto a Level 2 Apprenticeship in Business Administration.

Jessica was thrilled to begin the Apprenticeship in September 2015, starting out on reception, dealing with customers on a face-to-face basis, on the telephone and through e-mail enquiries. She was responsible for making appointments, completing registrations and conducting assessments with clients. Jessica excelled in her role on reception and her employer Alison recognised this, commenting “Jess is an invaluable member of our team and very popular with our clients and temps alike. Jess is conscientious and supportive, and she always strives to go above and beyond for everyone.”

As a result, Jessica was promoted to a role within the payroll department, where she now has the heightened responsibility of solely processing payroll for both the health and social care and industrial sectors. On a day to day basis this role involves processing payments and raising invoices and ensuring that payments aren’t processed without the correct sign off details or purchase order numbers; a challenging task considering the volume of clients and sectors HRGO cover.

Commenting on Jessica’s character, Alison said “Jess is a very positive person and always takes advice on board and accepts constructive criticism well, which enables her to progress and develop very quickly. There isn’t an area of the business that Jess doesn’t impact and she is an integral asset to our business, I am very confident Jess will be a success with whatever career path she wishes to embark upon.”

Commenting on her journey so far, Jessica said: “My Pre-Apprenticeship at The Skills Company really helped to prepare me for work. I am proud to work for HRGO as I am surrounded by a group of amazing people who feel like my second family. The office environment is friendly and hardworking but always fun. Every day is a new day with new challenges, no day is the same. I am excited for the progress that I can make at HRGO after seeing Ellie, who started as an Apprentice in 2013, progress to an Account Manager; it is inspiring to see the progression opportunities and support given within the business. The sky seems to be the limit at HRGO!”

Speaking of Jessica’s commitment, her employer Nicky added “Jessica has quickly adapted and thrived in the busy environment and is always keen to learn more. She is hard working, committed and constantly exceeding expectations. She is keen to progress even more and plans to become an Account Manager and with her determination and dedication to the business she should be a huge success.”

To celebrate what has been a successful few years for Jessica, she was Highly Commended in the Pre-Apprentice of the Year category of the Skills Company’s annual awards in March 2016 for her hard work, dedication and commitment.
