The Skills Company has entered into a partnership with Arriva Transport Solutions to develop a training programme aimed at preparing young people to become Ambulance Care Assistants.
The 12 week programme comprises a mixture of off the job and practical training and involves the trainees accompanying experienced and fully trained ambulance drivers on non-emergency calls. This includes transporting elderly people and those with mobility problems to hospital visits.
Of the five young people currently on the programme, some had previously completed The Skills Company’s eight week ‘Career in Care’ pre-apprenticeship training course, and others are on a work experience placement.
At the end of the 12 week course, successful completers will be offered a Level 2 Apprenticeship in Health and Social Care with Arriva. Arriva have been very pleased at the progress of the trainees.
Training Manager at Arriva, Tom Simpson said: “We have a very successful partnership with The Skills Company, who thoroughly support our training needs. The quality of the Trainees and Apprentices we take on through The Skills Company are of a very high calibre, which enables us to not only grow our business, but meet our corporate and social responsibilities.”
