Learners and staff from The Salford Skills Company brought some Christmas cheer to Salford shoppers in December by participating in a charity fund raising event for local charity Kidscan.
Kidscan is based in Salford and raises funds for Childhood Cancer research- this is why staff and learners at Salford Skills decided that this was a really worthwhile local charity to get involved with.
This year approx. 1,600 children will be diagnosed with cancer in the UK alone.
Through ground breaking research, Kidscan is striving to change that, giving every child with cancer the treatment they need to survive.
Kidscans aims are:
- To cure children with cancer
- To improve the treatment of children with cancer
- To develop new treatments and support programmes specifically for children suffering from cancer
- To help every child with cancer to survive and thrive.
The team from Salford included Ryth Bruckshaw, Centre Manager, Sarah Nicholson Placement Consultant and learners: Pavla Stipakova, Megan O’Reilly, William Oliver-Searson, Kian Kenna and Cole Fletcher.
A staggering £991.19p was raised in a two day event: 16th December 2016 at Sainsbury’s Regents Road Retail Park and 21st December 2016 at Tescos on Salford Precinct.
Jane Pinder Community Fundraiser from Kidscan Salford was overwhelmed that the learners from Salford Skills Centre volunteered to help the charity.
Quote from Jane : ‘ The learners and staff from Salford Skill raised a phenomenal amount for our charity, we are overwhelmed. It is actually the highest figure we have raised in supermarket foyers across our fundraising activity, saying that it was just before Christmas is amazing- that people gave so much. Thank-you to all staff and learners who took part.
