Helping Manchester’s Young People into Construction

23 Oct 2025

The “We Can Work It Out!” project, created in partnership with Manchester City Council, The Hideaway Youth Project and led by The Works Construction Academy, offers hands-on training, industry qualifications and direct connections to employers in the construction sector.

In collaboration with DWP, Catch22, Working Wardrobe, BAM, and B&K, the fully funded course gives learners:

  • The chance to gain a CSCS card and Health & Safety Level 1 certificate
  • Support with CV writing and interview skills
  • Access to a Meet the Employer event to connect with real opportunities
  • Free interview clothing and help with right-to-work documents
  • The chance to visit a live construction site and gain valuable work experience

Fifteen learners have already joined the first cohort, which successfully launched earlier this month and more programmes are on the way. The initiative has received strong feedback from both participants and partners, with plans to expand into other industries soon.

If you’re looking to start a career in construction, this course could be your first step.

Location: The Works, Salvation Army, 71 Grosvenor Street, M13 9UB
