Trainee apprentice laboratory technician supporting a research facility.
We are seeking an enthusiastic individual who is keen to join a dynamic team in the Institute of Translational Medicine. Training will be provided by the core technical team within the Institute of Translational Medicine. The role overview will include general tidiness, cleaning and routine care of apparatus and equipment. Sets out and clears away equipment, apparatus and materials working from a set of instructions. Learns and understands how to dispose of hazardous waste, ensuring contaminated apparatus and waste is dealt with in a safe manner. Cleans and undertakes basic maintenance of equipment and apparatus. Collects materials from stores and replenishes of stocks.
Assists in preparing solutions using balances, magnetic stirrers and pH meters. Assists in the completion of risk assessment forms. The individual will learn one set of scientific laboratory skills such as tissue culture, molecular biology, and more.
Manual handling will be required as part of the job.
In general, you will experience a varied role, working closely with other staff and with students. The apprentice will work under the supervision of the Technical Manager, although the day-to-day supervision will be delegated to a technician.
Minimum of 3 GCSE's at grade C and above in English, Math's and ICT. Preferably including science.
