A unique post in Chemistry Department, that includes an in-depth training in the standard analytical and chemical laboratory procedures, and in operation and maintenance of the major analytical equipment in the University environment.
The role can be considered as a starting point in the training of a person potentially suitable for the role of the Analytical Service technician.
A normal day would include
• Training in the standard chemical laboratory procedures provided by our qualified Analytical and Teaching lab technicians
• Self-learning and supervised practice in the operation of basic laboratory equipment and preparation of solutions/chemical compounds
• Training in the operation of the selected analytical equipment, e.g. CHNS elemental analysers, mass-spectrometers etc. provided by us
• Assistance in preventive maintenance of the major analytical equipment
• Training in the use of COSHH/MSDS databases for safe use of chemical compounds
• Training in safe handling and disposal of samples and chemical residues
On successfully completing your apprenticeship you will have access to internally advertised opportunities at the University of Liverpool. Further advise on career perspectives in the field of Analytical and Laboratory technical services will also be provided. In accord to the requirements of the specific Analytical Services job, further training/learning, i.e. at the BSc level may be envisaged.

Minimum of 3 GCSE's at Grade C and above in English, Math's and ICT

Good understanding of Maths, basic Physics and Chemistry. Knowledge of basic procedures on data treatment using EXCEL or similar software. Ease in operation of computer and computer-related hardware and Office software. Good communication skills.
