About this opportunity

The successful candidate will be required to support the construction and technology team within a large high school in Sale. The role also involves maintenance of the building and undertaking janitorial tasks. This apprenticeship is a physical role.

A normal day would include:
Undertaking and maintaining the cleanliness and physical appearance/environment of the designated cleaning area – inside and out
Preparing, manufacturing, assembly setting up, checking and issuing of materials, components, machine, tools and equipment including mixing of mortar for practical lessons
Checking equipment, keeping all tools in good order, sharpening and setting when necessary and carrying out routine maintenance, ensuring that health and safety standards are met
Setting up, checking and issuing equipment for use in lesson activities
Retrieving and clearing away equipment and pupils’ work at the end of teaching periods
Preparing and constructing demonstration models for the curriculum
Delivering demonstrations of the equipment and machine tools
Supporting the teaching of practical aspects of construction and design technology
Supporting the coordination of the use of resources
Ensuring that appropriate stock levels are maintained and stock checks are routinely carried out
Liaising with teaching staff to ensure the right materials are stocked and prepared
Portering duties within and outside the building location, making arrangements where necessary for the movement of heavy furniture within the school
Carrying out various maintenance and repairs in the school e.g. redecorating and fixing, and being responsible for the implementation of a preventative planned maintenance programme in conjunction with the facilities manager
Assisting the facilities manager with specific projects, ensuring school buildings are safe and fit for purpose, including using any specialist skills e.g. joinery, carpentry, building and plumbing

What you could go on to do
You could become a facilities manager, assistant facilities manager or caretaker at level 3.
