About this opportunity

Great Places Housing Group are seeking an apprentice to work closely with multi-functional teams. You, the GIS officer, will deliver a range of spatial analysis, map production and data projects for key internal departments &/or clients.

A normal day would include:
• Assisting the Business Intelligence (BI) & Business Systems(BS) function in running an efficient and effective GIS unit, ensuring the delivery of projects on time and to budget
• Processing and updating key geographical datasets for use in making Great Places own maps, across all relevant services, departments and wider cross functional teams
• Assisting the Business Intelligence team across a variety of data management/visualization projects including data mining, spatial analysis and cartography
• Providing complex GIS data analysis, visualisations and insights for a wide range of internal and external clients
• Working with business systems in the development and maintenance of complex databases and reporting systems
• Leading the coordination and prioritisation of GIS requests in relation to key projects across the business

What you should have to apply

• Educated to Degree (or equivalent) level in GIS, Geoscience, Spatial Data Management, Data Management (or related discipline/IT/Computer Science/Geography)with GIS modules &/OR substantial practical GIS experience
• Member of relevant Professional Institution (OR working towards CGeog(GIS))
• Qualified to minimum GCSE grade C/4 or equivalent in English and maths

Skills

• Ability to both create and manipulate spatial data using GIS
• Ability to undertake statistical analysis, including the interpretation of information from a range of sources
• Ability to work productively in partnership with public, private and voluntary sector organisations
• Ability to use full range of Microsoft Office i.e. Microsoft Excel / Access to advanced level
• Ability to manipulate the key UK geographic and social datasets and apply them to inform decision making
• Familiarity with common GIS software (ESRI/CADCorp etc.)
• Excellent communication and presentation skills, both written and verbal, particularly when addressing non-GIS audiences
• Knowledge of database management (SQL, PostgreSQL)
• Ability to use open source Web-mapping software
• Good written and verbal communication
• Effective liaison with staff/other stakeholders to give information/find information & resolve problems
• The ability to develop and project a positive image of Great Places through personal, written and oral skills
