Unique opportunity to work in a team supporting staff and students on a range of electronics based projects. Skills developed will include design, manufacture, repair, soldering and rework to surface mount level. Also laser cutting and 3D printing.
A normal day would include
• Liaising with student/staff as customers
• Interacting with other University staff in other departments
• Production of parts/circuits using appropriate software and machines.
• Using CAD/CAM software & equipment to manufacture parts
• Repair or manufacture of unique equipment using manufacturer data, diagnostic tools and soldering equipment.
• Ensuring Health and Safety requirements are met by staff and students
• Assisting with student projects
• Manufacture of small mechanical parts using power tools such as bench drills, sanders etc.
Full training and support will be provided in all these areas but specifically in the design and rapid manufacture of printed circuit boards in our workshops, the repair and design of commonly used power supplies etc. and the production of enclosures/ small mechanical parts using laser cutting and 3D printers. You will learn to read electronic schematics, identify components and make use of manufacturer datasheets to allow the design or repair of electronic equipment down to component level.
On successfully completing your apprenticeship you will have access to internally advertised opportunities at the University of Liverpool.
