About this opportunity

You don’t have to have completed an internship to work at a bank. Take a look at the UBS Investment Bank apprenticeship programme, which provides ambitious and talented individuals with an alternative route to a career in financial services.

This is an exciting opportunity to take your first steps into the world of investment banking - an apprenticeship with a truly global firm, one which won 'Highly Commended' and was included in the 'Top 100 Employers' list at the 2015 National Apprenticeship Awards. When we say global, we mean it – UBS has over 900 offices in over 50 countries, and we have been helping clients for over 150 years.

1.Your team:
You will be working in the UK Team (Coverage & Advisory) within our Corporate Client Solutions (CCS) business. Our retained clients are some of the UK's largest companies e.g. Vodafone, BP and Lloyds. We interact frequently with our clients, advising them in two main areas:

A.Corporate broking includes:
• Engaging with clients' shareholders around results and other corporate events
• Advising them on how best to finance their operations
• Defending them against attack from activist investors
• Advising them on the UK listing rules

B. Advisory includes:
• Advising companies on mergers/acquisitions with other companies
• Advising companies on Initial Public Offerings (IPOs) when they become listed on a stock exchange for the first time

2.What you will do:
Overall, you will contribute to our standards of excellent client service and gain a first-hand understanding of the investment bank across divisions. The UK team is uniquely positioned within CCS to facilitate insight into the equity markets as well as corporate finance.

Day-to-day responsibilities will include:
• Maintaining a repository of the UK team's client marketing slides
• Helping to update the regular market reports which we send to the boards of client firms
• Sourcing key shareholder information to contribute to the roadshow planning process and similar ad-hoc applications
• Tracking movements in shareholder positions for announced UK public mergers/acquisitions
• Preparing relevant public information books for senior bankers

You'll earn a salary working in the exciting and fast-paced environment of investment banking, whilst completing training for a recognised qualification offering a fee-free on-the-job education alternative to the traditional university route.

Longer-term projects will include:
• Developing strong in-person relationships with the equity salespeople and traders
o Become the go-to person for market colour and contribute to feedback for clients around significant events
o Daily floor-walk with specific questions fed in from others in the UK team
o Potential to carve out a role as the broking team's main communicator with the equities floor
• Generating a new, well-organised repository of slides which would be of relevance to a broad range of clients (e.g. on governance, MiFID, listing rules, standard timelines etc.)
o Potential to develop a range of new content:
? Specifics on key sectors e.g. UK retail
? Macroeconomic events e.g. Brexit
? Regulatory changes
o Receive input and collaborate with every member of our team
• Building a consolidated repository of team biographies and other relevant team information

For the first 18 months of your apprenticeship you will be studying towards your level 3 investment operations Certificate (IOC). You will then have the opportunity to progress onto various different high level apprenticeship schemes, where you have the potential to gain the equivalent to a bachelors undergraduate degree (for example, with the level 6 financial services apprenticeship which includes the CFA level 1, an industry recognised qualification worldwide) within six years of joining UBS.

What you could go on to do:
Your career development and professional qualifications don’t stop after the apprenticeship. Focused and determined individuals will be able to attain further qualifications - equivalent to a degree – and when your training is complete, you will have the opportunity to work towards a junior analyst role on our team.

How you will be supported:
You will be supported by several members of the sales team together with support from the program, your line manager, team, mentor and HR.

What you should have to apply

B/level 6 grades in GCSE maths and English language
A-levels: BCC or equivalent (104 UCAS Points)
