Apprentice Construction Technician/ Estates Operative

A great opportunity is now available at Ashton on Mersey School. They are recruiting for an Apprentice Construction Technician to assist with the maintenance of the school and projects within it.

A normal day would include:

• To support the Construction and Technology the day to day running of the faculty, working alone and as part of a team.
• To undertake and maintain the cleanliness and physical appearance/environment of the designated cleaning area – inside and out following specialist training, where applicable
• Portering duties within and outside the building location making arrangements where necessary for the movement of heavy furniture within the School.
• To carry out various maintenance and repairs in the school e.g. redecorating and fixing, and to be responsible for the implementation of a preventative planned maintenance programme in conjunction with the Facilities Manager.
• To assist the Facilities Manager with specific projects, ensuring school buildings are safe and fit for purpose, including using any specialist skills e.g. joinery, carpentry, building, plumbing to limit where possible the use of outside contractors
• The successful candidate will be required to support the Construction and Technology faculty within a large high school in Sale. Completing day to day duties. These include:
• Preparation, manufacture, assembly setting up, checking and issue of materials, components, machine, tools and equipment including mixing of mortar for practical lessons
• To check equipment, keeping all tools in good order, sharpen and set when necessary and carry out routine maintenance ensuring that health and safety standards are met
• Setting up, checking and issuing equipment for use in lesson activities
• Retrieve and clear away equipment and pupils work at the end of teaching periods
• Prepare and construct demonstration models for the curriculum
• Deliver demonstrations of the equipment and machine tools where necessary
• Support the teaching of practical aspects of Construction/DT
• Support coordination of the use of resources within the faculty
• Ensure that appropriate stock levels are maintained and stock checks are routinely carried out
• Liaise with teaching staff to ensure the right materials are stocked and prepared.
• The role also involves maintenance of the building and undertaking janitorial tasks relating to the caretaking of the School.

This apprenticeship is a physical role, so the candidate must be able to fulfil all aspects of the job
