To provide support as required by the teacher within the learning environment, from Reception class to Year 6 class, by responding to the needs of the pupil and supporting children’s learning and well-being.
Main Duties and responsibilities:
• Create and maintain a purposeful, orderly and supportive environment, in accordance with lesson plans
• Assist with the display of pupils’ work
• Use strategies, in liaison with the teacher, to support pupils to achieve learning goals
• Assist with the planning of learning activities
• Promote good pupil behaviour, dealing promptly with conflict and incidents in line with established policy and encourage pupils to take responsibility for their own behaviour
• Establish constructive relationships with parents/carers
• Provide clerical/admin. support e.g. photocopying, typing, filing etc. as directed
• Prepare, maintain and use equipment/resources required to meet the lesson plans/relevant learning activity and assist pupils in their use
• Supervise and provide particular support for all pupils ensuring their safety and access to learning activities
• Encourage pupils to interact with others and engage in activities led by the teacher
• Support challenging and demanding expectations and promote to pupils self-esteem and independence
Additional Duties:
• To attend and participate in meetings as required
• To participate in programmes of training as a trainee and when required as a trainer facilitator.
• To undertake training to provide First Aid cover (if/when trained)as required.
• Ensure that the School’s commitment to public orientation and care of customers is provided.
• Be able to render regular and efficient service to undertake the duties of this post.
• Be aware of and comply with policies and procedures relating to child protection, health, safety and security, confidentiality and data protection, reporting all concerns to an appropriate person.
• To undertake such other duties and responsibilities of an equivalent nature as may be determined from time to time by the Headteacher (or nominated representative) in consultation with the postholder (and if he/she so wishes, with his/her Trade Union representative).

You could progress to a Higher Level Teaching Assistant duties include covering for the absence of the Teacher, taking classes or small group for teaching and learning.
