Build Your Future in Construction – Level 1 Course

Our Level 1 Construction course is designed to give you the essential skills and knowledge to take your first step into the construction industry.

You’ll gain hands-on experience across a range of core construction trades, while also learning the key health and safety practices needed to work safely on site.

These qualifications are a great starting point if you’re looking to:

  • Progress onto further training in Multiskills or a trade-specific course at Level 2

  • Build your confidence and practical abilities in a real workshop environment

  • Take your first step towards a career in construction

With support from our expert tutors, you’ll develop the foundations you need to move on to a Level 2 qualification — and from there, into a job in the industry.

When does the course start?

Start dates:

  • 8 September 2025
  • 3 November 2025
  • 12 January 2026 

 

What does the course cover?

The qualifications cover a range of hand-skills and practical tasks in the following trade areas:

  • Bricklaying
  • Carpentry and Joinery
  • Plastering
  • Wall and Floor Tiling
  • Painting & Decorating
  • Construction Operations
  • Plumbing

If you do not hold the relevant English and maths qualifications, you will work towards them as part of this programme.

 

When will I attend?

Your attendance will depend on your timetable. We will go through this information with you in detail when you enrol.

Will I receive a bursary?

Yes, you will receive a bursary of up to £10.50* per day.

*Subject to adhering to the attendance and behaviour polices.

What will I achieve?

On successful completion you will achieve either a:

  • Level 1 Award in Construction Skills
  • Level 1 Certificate in Construction Skills
  • Level 1 Diploma in Construction Skills

The duration of the course will depend on the qualification, your Tutor will discuss this with you.

 

What are the entry requirements?

There are no formal entry requirements however, you will need to complete an initial assessment and informal interview.

What does the course cost?

The course is FREE for anyone aged 16-18 or 19-24 with an Education Health Care Plan (EHCP).
