Growth Company employees excel in their degrees despite pandemic struggles

22 Apr 2021
During a challenging year, employees at the Growth Company continued to work hard to achieve their BA (hons) Business Management degrees in partnership with Staffordshire University.

The Growth Company is delighted that four of our employees received their degree qualifications this year, with all four students achieving fantastic grades (including 2:1 and 1st Class Honours) that represent the determination they’ve shown during their studies. They are:

  • Jade Ward (Systems Administrator)
  • Anna Ahmet (Customer Service Executive)
  • Louise Dolan (Business Growth Advisor)
  • Tom Walsh (Loan & Securities Officer)

All employees studied in their own time in addition to their full-time roles demonstrating their commitment to their own professional development. Jade, Tom and Anna studied through the Growth Company for three years, developing from a Foundation Degree through to the Top Up that earned them their BAs. Louise joined them in their final year of study to build on an existing level 5 qualification she’d received through another institution.

The degree is designed to help learners to become good decision-makers, problem-solvers, communicators, and team-players – all skills which are essential for successful business management and leadership. They’ve studied a wide range of topics including strategic management, marketing, learning and development, global business and applied business research.

Louise Dolan has previously studied at BA (hons) level but knew further study could help her progress in her career. She said: “I graduated in 1996 with a BA (hons) degree in English Literary Studies. I progressed with management CPD in my career, and the chance to work towards a Business Management BA (hons) was a great opportunity to benchmark my business knowledge, develop resources and gain a degree directly relevant to the context I am working in. Completing the degree has motivated me to apply, and accept, a place at Edge Hill University on their part-time MBA course to develop further my business and management consultancy skills.”

As a result of lockdown restrictions brought in during the COVID-19 pandemic, teaching for their degree courses moved online during 2020, and all students on the course persevered through this challenging time with support from their tutor and the Higher Education team at the Growth Company. Despite the stresses of having to quickly change to a new way of learning, it has highlighted some benefits of the flexibility of online delivery.

Caroline Parker, Programme Leader for HE Business at the Growth Company, is delighted with the results from this year’s cohort. She said: “We’re extremely proud of the results our students have gained this year. To have persevered through the final months of their studies during the pandemic, switching to online learning and achieving these outstanding grades, feels like an added achievement.”
