We are delighted to announce that Paul Orton has been shortlisted for the Training Champion Award at the FIS Awards
Since joining the Growth Company in February 2023 as a Skills Development Tutor, Paul has consistently demonstrated exceptional commitment, professionalism and leadership. His impact has been transformative not only in learner outcomes but also in the development of staff, expansion of provision and enhancement of the organisation’s reputation.
Paul quickly became a key member of the team, completing his IQA qualification with outstanding feedback for his aptitude and engagement. His dedication is evident in his daily role as a tutor, where he consistently goes above and beyond to support learners and colleagues.
Paul’s guidance has also supported other staff in delivery, resulting in the Plastering courses becoming oversubscribed, a testament to the quality and reputation of his teaching.
He led the delivery of the Skim Only course in partnership with British Gypsum, which has gained significant traction. Due to the high standards achieved under his leadership, we are now recognised as a Gold Thistle Partnership College - a prestigious accolade in the sector.
His learners consistently excel, with plastering students winning six out of the last eight Learner of the Month awards at the SkillCentre. This reflects Paul’s ability to inspire, motivate and guide learners to success.
Paul is known for his exceptional reliability and initiative. Feedback from learners and employers is consistently outstanding, praising his clarity, professionalism and support.
Paul has also played a pivotal role in designing and constructing two new delivery areas, increasing capacity and meeting the growing demand for plastering education.
His passion for plastering is unmatched. Having progressed from apprentice to industry professional and now educator, he is deeply committed to instilling both technical skills and the right attitudes to work.
His mentorship of apprentice Liam Cleaver led to Liam winning Construction Awards Apprentice of the Year in 2024.
“Paul exemplifies everything an outstanding educator should be. From his journey as an apprentice to becoming a tutor, his unwavering commitment to learners and colleagues and his constant drive for excellence make him a truly deserving candidate. To put it simply: Paul is the best tutor, assessor, IQA and teammate I’ve ever had the privilege of working alongside.” — Lee Beveridge, Delivery Manager
