About this opportunity

As an Apprentice Support Worker you will support service users who have learning disabilities, communication difficulties and behaviours which challenge, to maximise their potential to lead an ordinary life.

The employer is looking for a positive and passionate apprentice who is keen and willing to learn. You can expect a wage well in excess of the Apprenticeship average.

Role and Responsibilities:
To work as part of a team enabling service users to exercise choice and develop / maintain their independence
Work within Standwalk’s policies and procedures
Ensure that service users are involved in as much of their daily living as is possible, doing things with service users rather than for them
Ensure that agreed care plans are carried out in accordance with the guidance contained within them
Support service users in daily living tasks such as bathing, dressing, eating meals, maintaining their own bedrooms, lounges etc., assisting with laundry, visiting health appointments etc
Working as an associate key worker, ensuring the service user maintains contact with family and friends, (where the person wishes to); ensuring the service user has sufficient clothing available, assisting in information for reports and attending meetings where appropriate
Administer medication when required adhering to Standwalk medication policy and procedure
Assisting service users to prepare their own meals
Supporting service users on outings and holidays
Contribute to new ways of working and ideas to improve the way we support service users
Act in a positive and professional manner at all times whilst representing Standwalk.

What you should have to apply

GCSEs or equivalent Grade C or above in English, Maths preferred or ability to work this level.

Skills

Good verbal and written communication, administration and record-keeping skills
Basic fitness and good general health
An understanding of the challenges faced by individuals living with disability.
