An exciting role is available at Walsall Academy. In this role you will develop the knowledge and skills required to provide student and technical support to the subject teachers for Science and Technology.
A normal day would include:
• Aiding the planning of lessons for young people in order of maximise their learning
• Supporting the delivery of teaching in order to bring about excellent student progress
• Enabling effective assessment of student capabilities to support the improved teaching and learning
• Engage in regular reviews of student progress and support the teaching staff in bringing about improvements in pupil attainment
Maintenance:
• Help the department take care of laboratory equipment and apparatus
• Carrying out and arranging for maintenance and repair of resources including weekly checks of tools, equipment and machinery
• Helping construct and modify apparatus
• Stock taking and supporting the storing of chemicals and equipment
• Help obtain materials by local purchase
• Ensure that all Health and safety requirements are met according to regulations including COSHH
Operational:
• Trialling practical activities reflecting on the benefit to students
• Preparing, supporting setting up and checking materials and equipment required by the subject teacher prior to lessons
• To provide support to teaching staff and students of all key stages during lessons as and when needed
• Assisting in assembling apparatus, cutting materials, delivering equipment to rooms to help improve the quality of lessons
• Occasionally assisting in class practical including carrying out demonstrations
• Caring for plants and/or animals, where appropriate
• Collecting, checking and returning equipment to stores
• Along with other department staff assist with General Laboratory and Manufacturing area cleaning: bench surfaces and fixed equipment (laboratory sinks, emptying/supervising the emptying of sink traps)
• Disposing of waste materials
