About this opportunity

The HR Apprentice will sit within the Policy and HR Service Team with exposure to the full HR agenda, working with specialist teams to obtain a foundation as a HR specialist.

Duties and Responsibilities:

This is a great opportunity to work and learn from a professional and diverse HR team. The successful applicant will be expected to undertake a variety of administrative duties both independently and under supervision. As mentioned already, there is an expectation that the apprentice will rotate across all areas of HR to ensure full understanding of the HR lifecycle. This will include:

Reward, Performance and Payroll
• Support Compensation and Benefits manager with pay and bonus cycle, performance management and promotions;
• Gain a deep understanding of the compensation and benefits cycle, process and associated cyclical activities;
• Provide support to compensation and benefits initiatives, and support their implementation in the business;
• Support payroll manager as required with monthly payroll process;
• Work with the payroll manager and HR Administrator on monthly pensions updates and reporting;
• Develop understanding of benefits offering and associated HR activities
• Develop reporting and analytical capabilities.
Learning and Development
• Build strong relationships with the business to understand training needs;
• Support the L&D manager with co-ordination and delivery of training courses;
• Update training records for all colleagues and supporting the delivery of L&D services to the business;
• Support the L&D manager with maintenance of the L&D platform;
• Create reports from the L&D system for individual departments to monitor key KPIs;
• Administer and keep the apprenticeship levy up to date.

Recruitment
• Undertake administrative duties associated with recruitment, including interview scheduling, liaising with agencies and supporting Talent Acquisition and Recruitment Manager as appropriate;
• Place adverts on the relevant job boards/ with agencies;
• Support RTW checks;
• Ensure all screening is completed successfully and in a timely manner, including DBS/ Disclosure Scotland;
• Maintain ATS in conjunction with the Talent Acquisition and Recruitment Manager.
HR Administration
• Assist with the management of HR Inboxes, and provide first line support to ensure staff queries are dealt with professionally, accurately and in a timely manner;
• Support the preparation of employment contracts, changes to employment terms and conditions letters. Ensure they are accurate and issued in a timely manner.
Employee Relations:
• Work with HR advisor and trainee HR advisor on supporting family friendly policies;
• Support with case management and people issues.

HR System
• Ensure the accurate and timely input of data onto the HR system, including new starters, leavers, maternity, paternity, absence and annual leave, etc.
• Support with HR Reporting on key metrics for HR Dashboard;
• Ensure HR system data is maintained and accurate.

People Strategy and Culture:
• Support the HRBPs as required to support the business and provide HR guidance and advice;
• Work with HRBPs on HR initiatives to support people strategy.
• Understand the business priorities – gain commercial exposure / develop an understanding of the application of policy frameworks

General duties
• Provide and promote HR service excellence and foster effective teamwork and business relationships;
• Communicate sensitively with a wide range of people, both internally and externally;
• Maintain information in a confidential manner, following data protection regulations;
• Complete Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and training to update own skills and knowledge;
• Carry out other such similar duties that may be reasonably required by the HR team.
HR Consultancy:
• Develop and deliver HR solutions to the business that are appropriate to the organisational context.
• Provide tailored HR services to the business as required by their role e.g. Performance Management, Resourcing, Development, Talent, Reward. Contributes to the development of relevant HR policies & procedures and/or HR initiatives.

HR Information Analysis:
• Research, analyse and presents HR / business data (both internal and external) to provide insight, support solutions to business issues and track performance.

Relationship Management:
• Build effective working relationships with business managers (using the language of the business), peers and other HR functions, together with relevant external organisations. Communicate confidently with people at all levels, including senior management.

Providing Support & Advice:
• Tailor business-centred advice on the interpretation and application of HR policies and processes.
• Make sound judgments based on business need, ensuring the business operates within the boundaries of employment law.
• Deal with escalated people issues and works with the business to resolve them.

What you should have to apply

• Minimum 5 GCSEs at A*-C/9-4 plus minimum of 3 A levels at BCC

• You will be mentored by a member of the HR team;
• Support will be offered off site/on site to fulfil the requirements of the Apprenticeship scheme.
