About this opportunity

Fair and Inclusive Stockport have an exciting opportunity has arisen for an apprenticeship placement to support Stockport to become a fairer and more inclusive place, whilst also learning project management skills.

This is a fixed term 24 month placement. You will be based within the Fair and Inclusive Stockport team, but there will be opportunities to work on the Economic Plan and on other emerging projects with a range of partners.

Main areas covered by the apprenticeship are set out below:

• Learn the skills necessary to support the management of a significant project which cuts across many teams in the Council and entails work with a wide range of external partners
• Work across teams to collate evidence of the Council’s policies and practices in relations to employment
• Lead (with support) on developing the Council’s submissions for accreditation to the Greater Manchester Good Employment Charter and the Real Living Wage
• Promote good employment practice to employers across Stockport including developing and delivering presentations
• Provide project management support to other fair and inclusive programme priorities as they arise
• Develop and maintain working relationships with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders
• Engage with voluntary and community sector groups including managing and supporting equalities themed events and activities
• Contribute to the provision of specialist advice and guidance on good employment practices and real living wage accreditation

Other requirements
• To keep a detailed learning log or portfolio of your experience and training
• To assist in evaluating your placement
• To participate, as appropriate, in required training programmes in support of the Project Management apprenticeship qualification and for applying for future work or training opportunities

What you could go on to do
Following a successful completion of the apprenticeship, you will have the core skills needed to be able to secure a role within project management roles and potentially Stockport Council should a relevant one become available. The knowledge of the organisation you would gain during your placement, in addition to the skills you will develop, will make you a strong candidate for future roles. The successful applicant will be able to access the Council’s various ‘work ready’ training programmes.

How you will be supported
Full training and support will be provided by The Growth Company to help you achieve your apprenticeship and reach your full potential in your role. Stockport Council will also provide you with an apprenticeship mentor to support the ‘on the job’ element of your placement as well as a work supervisor.

What you should have to apply

• Hold a minimum of 48 UCAS points, or equivalent
