About this opportunity

You don’t have to have completed an internship to work at a bank. Take a look at the UBS Investment Bank global financing services apprenticeship programme, which provides ambitious individuals with an alternative route to a career in finance.

This is an exciting opportunity to take your first steps into the world of investment banking - an apprenticeship with a truly global firm, one which won 'Highly Commended' and was included in the 'Top 100 Employers' list at the 2015 National Apprenticeship Awards. UBS has over 900 offices in over 50 countries, and they have been helping clients for over 150 years.

You’ll get the opportunity to work in one of the following teams within the fixed income, rates & credit (FRC) division of the investment bank:
• Foreign exchange (FX) sales
• Interest rate trading
• EMEA client office

The client base you would potentially cover includes hedge funds and asset managers to insurance companies and banks as well as pension funds and global family offices and many more across FRC.

What you will do:
UBS apprentices will be able to assist the teams in the day-to-day operational running of the desk which could include a range of tasks from trade processing to trade allocation or offering guidance when managing client relationships, ensuring a consistency of messaging and content delivery to clients from across FRC.

Your daily work will include:
• Working alongside the foreign exchange (FX) sales team interacting with some of the most exciting asset and hedge managers in the world. You will gain first hand insight into the sales process and what makes a client a good client and long term partner for UBS.

• Interest rate trading – this team market make medium term interest rate (MTIR) products. You will gain first hand insight into trading and risk management as well as trade processes, understanding the pricing of the MTIR products and what drives that price discovery. For example, you will help maintain and update trading pitch books and pitch presentations to a high standard as well as assisting with trade idea generation.

• EMEA client office – this global team contributes to the overall FRC Sales strategy with the goal of covering a full spectrum of client types. You will gain an in-depth understanding of the services and products that UBS provide to their clients. For example, you will help the team run client meetings, support in organising client events and event planning as well as supporting the organisation, set up and tracking of all client council meetings in EMEA.

There is also an opportunity to learn a deal more about the financial markets and the wider FRC business through regular business teach-ins, rotation schemes and through the internal network you will develop.

For the first 18 months of your apprenticeship you will be studying towards your level 3 investment operations certificate (IOC). You will then have the opportunity to progress onto various different high level apprenticeship schemes, where you have the potential to gain the equivalent to a bachelors undergraduate degree within 6 years of joining UBS. One option could be the level 6 financial services apprenticeship which includes the CFA level 1, an industry recognised qualification worldwide.

What you could go on to do:
Your career development and professional qualifications don’t stop after the apprenticeship. Focused and determined individuals will be able to attain further qualifications - equivalent to a degree – and when your training is complete, you will have the opportunity to work towards a junior sales person or client service relationship manager.

How you will be supported:
You will be supported by several members of the sales team together with support from the program, your line manager, team, mentor and HR.
