Animal Care Apprentice required at The University of Liverpool, based in Neston, Wirral.
The key role of the Animal Care Apprentice is to work alongside the nursing and auxiliary team and provide them with assistance, to assist in the care of hospitalised dogs and cats in the hospital, and maintain an appropriate clean, tidy environment allowing the staff to focus on undergraduate teaching.
Tasks include (but are not limited to):
Taking dogs to runs for walking, feeding and cleaning, general upkeep of patient accommodation
Assist in the care of hospitalised animals
Transporting patients to other areas within the hospital
Animal handling, including restraining the patient for clinical examination and blood sampling
Washing and drying of bedding, collection and disposal of hospital refuse
Ensure the wards, ICU, consults rooms reception are constantly stocked and maintained clean and tidy
Will abide to Health and Safety rules at all times
Cleaning operating theatre and instruments and assisting the theatre team
Any other reasonable tasks to assist the nursing, auxiliary and clinical teams
The animal care apprentice will be required to work weekends and on University closure days as part of the out of hours rota to provide auxiliary cover within the hospital
The Apprentice will report to the senior nurses in the first instance, then the Head Nurse.
Minimum of 3 GCSE's at Grade C and above in English, Math's and ICT.

Good interpersonal skills and ability to interact with individuals at all levels in the University. Motivated and hard working.
Knowledge and understanding of the care and husbandry of the cats and dogs
