About this opportunity

Clinical Lab Apprentice required at the Small Animal Teaching Hospital in Neston, Wirral.

The key role of the Clinical lab apprentice is to work alongside the Clinical Pathology Technical team and Small Animal Teaching Hospital team and provide them with assistance: to assist in basic clinical tasks and tests, administrive laboratory work and maintain an appropriate clean, tidy environment allowing the staff to focus on undergraduate teaching.

Tasks include (but are not limited to):
Handling,of clinical samples, include blood, urine, faecal and tissue samples
Transporting of samples around the Leahurst site
Packaging samples to send to external labs
Handling Clinical waste
Ensure the clinical labs are constantly stocked and maintained
clean and tidy. Will abide to Health &Safety rules at all times
Cleaning and operating laboratory equipment
Any other reasonable tasks to assist the technical and clinical teams
The apprentice will be required to work weekends and on University closure
days as part of the out of hour's rota to provide cover and assistance within the hospital
The apprentice will report to the senior tech in the first instance, then the Head Nurse.

What you should have to apply

Minimum of 3 GCSE's or equivalent at Grade C and above in English, Math's and ICT.

Good interpersonal skills and ability to interact with individuals at all levels in the University. Motivated and hard working.
