Level 3 Award in the Installation of Small Scale Solar Photovoltaic
This course is aimed at roofers, plumbers and electricians to upskill to become solar panel installers.
Solar photovoltaics are the solar panels that sit on the roofs of buildings and generate energy from the sun. They are designed to convert sunlight into electricity. The energy is stored in batteries and released later when needed, surplus energy can be sold back to the national grid.
Candidates will gain hands-on experience and will work directly with our purpose-built solar PV roofing system. You will develop the essential skills needed to effectively design, install, test, commission, handover, service and fault-find a solar photovoltaic system. This qualification will act as an additional bolt-on qualification that supports the existing skills of the individuals who desire to retrain and up-skill in this area.

This five-day course will give you a sound grounding along with hands-on experience in fitting solar photovoltaic equipment to many different kinds of roofs.
The course covers:
- Health and safety risks and safe systems
- Photovoltaic panels in the context of renewable technologies
- Regulations/standards relating to practical installation, testing and commissioning of solar photovoltaic (PV) systems
- D.C and A.C circuit installation layouts
- Solar PV fundamental components
- Design of a PV system
- Installing a PV system
- Testing, commissioning and client hand-over
- Wiring and maintenance
- Fault finding, diagnosis and rectification
This course is intended for qualified electricians who want to install grid-connected domestic photovoltaic systems that are either integrated into, or retrofitted onto, a domestic property.
You will need the following:
- An NVQ (or SVQ) Level 3 in Electrical Installation (Building Structures) or equivalent earlier certification
- If not covered by the above you must also have passed your 17th Edition Wiring Regulations
