Professional Accounting/Tax Technician Apprenticeship

This is a government funded programme which has been designed to support your development and skills when working in a finance or accountancy role, a natural progression from Level 3.

The course extends your knowledge of producing management and financial information and how your company uses this information to make decisions and plan for the future. This course with the support from your employer will help you to develop your skills in analysis, communication, leadership, producing quality and accurate information, and teamwork; you will also naturally improve your adaptability, add value, apply the ethical concepts and principles, and use professional scepticism in your job role.

This course will help you to understand the breadth of the company, the environment in which it operates, and how financial information is processed and produced. You will also gain a deeper understanding of regulatory financial requirements, whilst enhancing your communication, and IT skills.

The tuition to support your learning is classroom based.

What does the course cover?

The course covers a range of knowledge, skills and behaviours that can be applied in the workplace and is supported by elements of an AAT qualification covering:

  • Drafting and Interpreting Financial Statements
  • Applied Management Accounting
  • Internal Accounting Systems and Controls

You will complete:

An End-Point Assessment (EPA) covering roles and responsibilities of the accounting function within an organisation and examine ways of preventing and detecting fraud and systemic weaknesses; evaluate an organisation’s accounting control systems and procedures; analyse an organisation’s decision making and control using management accounting tools, using ratio analysis, and making recommendations.

A portfolio of evidence and take part in an independent professional discussion or produce a written reflective statement.

When will I attend?

This is mainly a work based qualification with attendance required half a day per week.

What will I achieve?

On successful completion you will achieve a Level 4 Professional Accounting/Tax Technician Apprenticeship Certificate.


There is also the option to achieve a full AAT Professional Diploma in Accounting Level 4 Certificate.

What are the entry requirements?
  • You must hold a Level 3 qualification in Accounting
  • Ideally, you will hold a GCSE grade 4 or above in maths and English or equivalent
  • You must be employed in either a finance or accountancy role
How much does the course cost?

There isn't a cost to learners. Employers will pay a contribution to the cost of the apprenticeship. Please get in touch for further information.
