Skills Bootcamp in Education and Training

This FREE 6-week Skills Bootcamp is for anyone who is wanting to teach in post-16 education settings such as colleges and independent training providers.

Skills Bootcamps are flexible courses of up to 16 weeks, giving people the opportunity to build up sector-specific skills and fast-track to a guaranteed interview with a local employer.

This Skills Bootcamp is the first step toward a career in teaching; it is suitable for those who work in FE colleges and independent training providers and also those working in voluntary, community, private and public organisations delivering training.

This training has been made possible and is free to individuals thanks to Greater Manchester Combined Authority securing funding for Skills Bootcamps, forming part of the Government’s Lifetime Skills Guarantee and funded through the Department of Education’s National Skills Fund.

When does the course start?

We have the following start dates available for this Skills Bootcamp:

  • Tuesday 14 November 2023 
  • Tuesday 13 February 2024

Attendance is required 3 days per week (Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday) 10am-1pm.

What does the course cover?

During this 6-week Skills Bootcamp in Education and Training, you will cover:

  • Introduction to the Skills Bootcamp
  • Research and assignment writing skills
  • Understanding roles, responsibilities and relationships in education and training 
  • Understanding and using inclusive teaching and learning approaches in education and training
  • Understanding assessment in education and training
  • Understanding and exploring different types and methods of assessment used in education and training
  • Record keeping
  • Soft skills, including mental health, communication, CV writing, interview techniques and employer interview

In addition, all learners must successfully plan and deliver a micro teach, build a portfolio of evidence and submit assignments. 

 

What are the entry requirements?

Depending on the role or setting you are wanting to teach in, you may be required to hold a Level 3 qualification in the specialism/subject that you are wanting to teach, but this is not a requirement for the course.

Ideally, you will hold a GCSE grade A-C/4-9 or equivalent in maths and English. 

Our Skills Bootcamps are fully funded for anyone aged 19+ who is:

  • Employed either full-time or part-time
  • Unemployed
  • Self-employed
  • A serving prisoner due to be released within 6 months of completion of a Skills Bootcamp and those on temporary release
