Working with a closely integrated small team, 4 days on 4 days off rota. 8am to 6pm day- 1 hour for lunch.
A normal day would include
tractor scraping, dry cow area/collecting yard and outside cow loafing areas
tractor scraping heifer yards and bedding down
care of new calved cow and calf- carrying out strict farm protocols
cleaning and maintenance of dairy equipment and farm machinery- use of steam cleaner
moving cows to and from the milking parlour in the afternoons which will also include bedding down and carrying out strict protocols regarding water trough cleanliness
helping with stock tasks e.g. worming, moving animals around, sorting animals out for students
there will be times when calf rearing duties will be required
the farm has weekly work experience students for a significant part of the year. There will be times when an apprentice will be working alongside work experience students.
Care of new born calves. Feeding young stock.
Scraping up the tractor, bedding down young stock.
Helping out with stock tasks. After lunch getting cows in for milking and bedding down. Cleaning out water troughs, checking and feeding outside young stock. Will include some milking and care of baby calves.
Level 2/3 NVQ. Only progress to level 3 if they successfully complete 2 and work to the required standard for the farm.
On completion of the apprenticeship, the apprentice will be capable of a herdspersons job.
On successfully completing your apprenticeship you will have access to internally advertised opportunities at the University of Liverpool.
How you will be supported
Full training and support will be provided by on the job training and assessment staff from Reaseheath College and will include one day a week at college.

Minimum of 3 GCSE's at Grade C and above in English, Math's and ICT
Dependable reliable good interpersonal skills, ability to work as part of a team, ability to prioritise work and work to deadlines. Good attention to detail and high level of accuracy. Good interpersonal skills and ability to interact with individuals at all levels in the University.
As this is a training role specific skills are less important than personal qualities but previous experience of working with farm animals will be an advantage
We are looking for two apprentices to work a 4 on 4 off shift pattern, working with a small dedicated Dairy farm team at The University of Liverpool's vet school.
The Victoria Gallery & Museum (VGM) houses the University of Liverpool's art & heritage collections. The Visitor Services Team are the first point of contact for visitors & you will assist in providing a helpful & knowledgeable service to the public.
